Session Information and Frequently asked questions

I am interested in booking a session, when is the best time for me to schedule with you?Depending on the time of year I am usually booked 4-6 weeks in advance. If you are interested in booking with me please schedule as soon as possible to help ensure I will be able to arrange the dates you have in mind. At the the time of booking, your session fee is due in order for me to committ your scheduled date. Please understand that this is non refundable if you do cancel your session. You will also receive a copy of my contracts which you will be asked to read over and sign and bring with you to your session.

We've set the date, now where will we take the pictures? I will work with you to determine the location in which the session will be held and determine what type of a feel you would like to express in your pictures. Whether it be more scenic, urban, classic, etc. I am an on location photographer so I shoot outside with natural light. I have a variety of unique locations that I love to use but am always open to suggestions.Studio location may be announced as soon as Jan. of 2009 stay tuned for details.

What should we wear? Clothing is a very important part of your children's or families pictures. It is important to stay true to your style, but I also have some suggestions which can help the overall outcome of your portraits. For children I tend to gravitate toward rich bright colors. Textured (cordoroy, jean, buttons, ruffles, knit) and layered clothing (jackets, scarfs, leggings) always looks nice for the finished picture, they both allow for depth and interest. I LOVE hats on both boys and girls. I always love a cute pair of shoes and then some bare feet too. For families, I love the look of complimentary colors, nothing too matching. Dark Jeans and khakis are always a nice choice for bottoms. Textures and layers also work very well for families. I like the final image to be colorful, fun and classic. I know how hard it can be to put your final look together for children and families and I am always available for email/phone consultations A few suggestions for childrens clothing are Naartjie, Old Navy, GAP, and Curdz and Whey (Draper) Kinder Winkel (Sandy) 77 kids (American Eagles children's line)

What time of the day do you shoot? I like to work during the evening hours which allows for the best natural light. This is usually in the last 2 hours before the sun sets.

Do you have any props that you like to use at your sessions? Yes, I love to use props. I have a variety of antique chairs, baskets, ladders etc. I would recommend that you look through my website and blog to see if any of those props are interesting to you. We can chat and arrange which ones you would like for me to bring.

What can we expect during the session? I like for the session to be as laid back as possible. Ultimately I like to have the "real you" conveyed in the pictures. There will probably be times I ask for your family to just play around with each other while I stand back and take shots. I love to allow children to just be themselves. There will be times that I want them to look at the camera and there will be times I will prefer that they just "be". It will be an adventure, each session is unique and so much fun in it's own way, it's always exciting to see how each and everyone will turn out.

We've finished shooting our session what now? After your session I will place a few sneak peaks of your best images up on blog within a few days. I will have 25-30 of your best images ready to view in my online private gallery within 2 weeks of your session. The images will remain in the gallery for 7 days, orders must be placed within that time frame. Once you have placed your order you will receive either your prints or images on CD within 1-3 weeks.

Let's talk about newborn sessions. If your are interested in booking a newborn session please remember to book at least 4-6 weeks before your due date. Newborns are best photographed in the first few weeks of life, they tend to be a bit sleepier and "bendy". This allows for the best possible posing and opportunity to catch them sleepy and snuggly. Newborn sessions will take place in your home which will allow for the most comfortable atmosphere for both baby and the family. I may take some outside shots close by the home if your baby is cooperative and happy and it is warm and not too windy. I understand that newborns are on their own little schedule, which is why the session will last 2 hours. I am more than willing to work with you and your baby until we are able to capture the best possible pictures.
